This post is for all the dry-skinned girls out there. My skin is far away from being dry now but before I slipped into my hormonal acne issues I used to have quite dry skin. That explains why I still have lots and lots of products for that concern in my skincare drawer. Uhh, I have to tell you that I really miss using a creamy moisturizer, I miss the comforting and pampering feeling a heavy cream leaves on the skin 🙂
Thinking back I have to admit that it was way more easy to treat my dry skin and I was more able to take care of it. Since I have to deal with oily skin I have realized that it is way harder to find matching products for your skin needs, especially if you top the oiliness with impurities. What I want to say with that is that you can do a bit more to beat dry skin than just replenish it with a great moisturizer. First of all, if you live in colder regions, your skin tends to dry out easier. The temperature drops as well as the humidity level and cold air leaves the skin dried out. The skin gets maltreated by the change of cold weather outside and warm air from the heating inside. A humidifier is a great way to keep the air in your home moist. It helps your skin to create a barrier against the cold, locks in moisture and it also prevents your mucus membranes from getting dry, which is a nice health benefit, too. This also applies for warmer regions since the sun dries out the skin likewise but a bit differently. You can protect your skin from the sun by wearing sunscreen every single day, avoid afternoon sun as much as possible or cover your head with a hat. As well as that, stay away from any soap cleansers. They are too aggressive and may dry out the skin even more, at worst it may leave the skin irritated. Milky cleansers are fantastic, as well as cleansing balms or cleansing oils. Make sure the cleanser doesn’t contain alcohol. Also, never wash your skin with too hot water since it dries out the skins natural oils and leaves it tight and uncomfortable. Luke-warm water is perfect for cleaning your skin. Last but not least I throw in a mandatory advice: drink lots and lots of water 🙂
“Our unique combination of ingredients helps reduce moisture loss while drawing and absorbing moisture from the air. With continuous water replenishment throughout the day, skin is smooth, healthy-looking, and “moisture-even”.
The Ultra Facial Cream has everything a good moisturizer needs. It contains avocado oil, hydrates the skin, sinks in immediately. On top of that it is a great moisturizer under make up since it evens out the skin. Works also perfectly for dry combination skin. If you fancy a simple yet effective moisturizer with no frills – this is the one.
“Born from the sea, the legendary Crème de la Mer has the power to transform the skin. In a short time, firmness improves, lines, wrinkles and the look of pores become less visible, skin looks virtually ageless. Even the driest complexions are renewed and rejuvenated. With the nutrient-rich Miracle Broth™, the heart of La Mer’s profound powers of transformation, skin is immersed in moisture, sensitivities soothed, radiance restored.”
Yes, the price is heavy and I remember how long I considered purchasing this cream. It feels so luxurious on the skin and hydrates beneath the dermis which might be one of the reasons why it is so expensive. Suited for dry to very dry and sensitive skin and comes with a spatula. Before you apply the cream you warm it between your fingertips until it becomes warm and then you press it into the skin. One further note: a little goes a long way, you don’t need much product at all.
“With Silky Cream, your skin’s capacity to retain water is restored. It remains intensely hydrated in all circumstances. Its secret? Organic, medicinal kalanchoe extract, a powerful natural hydration activator that boosts the skin’s hyaluronic acid production. Your instantly quenched skin is fresh, comfortable, radiant, and plump.”
Don’t be confused, this is the old packaging, Clarins brought out a new look of the formerly HydraQuench range. There is not much to say about this moisturizer but the fact that this cream is incredibly calming, comforting and nourishing. Texture-wise this one is a bit more gel-like. The scent is fantastic, I truly love it. If you need a freshness kick in summer place it in the fridge. For thirsty skin I highly recommend the Clarins Hydra-Essential range, it is such a blessing for dry skin.
“Daily moisturizing cream for normal to dry or stressed skin. Use this vitamin-rich, readily absorbed cream for immediate and significant hydration after cleansing.”
This cream is by far the heaviest I own. It is perfect for really dry skin or as a heavy night cream, dry patches disappear immediatley. If you like the feeling of a layer of thick cream on your skin then this one is for you. The smell is quite intense and herby, you have to like these kind of scents otherwise it might be too strong.
“Moisture-rich cream ups the hydration intensity of our yellow genius. Dermatologist-developed formula combines all-day protection with skin-strengthening ingredients to soothe even the driest skins. Makes skin more resilient. Use it daily to keep skin younger, longer.”
This stuff is heaven in a jar. For very dry to dry combination skin. The moisturizer soaks the skin in moisture and protects it even when it is freezing cold outside. The result is baby-soft, healthy-looking skin. It also helps to reduce redness and calms the skin. I really miss using this moisturizer and I give it an A+. Oh and by the way, this one has no noticeable scent to it which makes it perfect for sensitive skin as well.
“Rich, oil-free cream-gel plumps skin with 24-hour hydration. Instantly rehydrates. Helps repair skin’s moisture barrier over time.”
The Moisture Surge Intense is also for very dry to dry combination but it is also great for very irritated skin or eczema. It leaves the skin glowy and youthful-looking. The texture is quite gel-ish and also here, you don’t need much product. This cream works great in warmer regions because it sinks into the skin quite quickly and doesn’t leave it greasy. Both Clinique creams are just excellent and you get great value for your money.
